What is Real-ESRGAN?
Real-ESRGAN is an open-source model for practical image and video restoration. This site provides an online interface for image upscaling.
Is this the official Real-ESRGAN website?
No. This is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the original Real-ESRGAN authors.
Which images can I upload?
The online tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP images up to 10MB, 4096 pixels per side, and 8 megapixels.
Should I choose 2× or 4×?
Use 2× for faster, more conservative enhancement. Use 4× when you need a substantially larger output.
Does upscaling recover the original detail?
Not exactly. Real-ESRGAN reconstructs plausible detail, so results should not be treated as evidence of what was present in the original scene.
What does Face Enhance do?
Face Enhance applies an additional face restoration step. It can improve portraits but may also alter facial details.
How are uploaded images processed?
Images are stored temporarily in our object storage, sent to Replicate for processing, and the result is copied back to our storage for download and gallery access.
Can I use the output commercially?
Real-ESRGAN uses a permissive BSD 3-Clause license, but you remain responsible for rights to the source image and how you use the output.
